The RED Café: A Black Woman’s Renaissance

When attending a Historically Black University every day can feel like Black History month, however, we should still take time to honor those who have paved the way for us, and to acknowledge the history that we are making each day. In order to coincide with the Association for the Study of African American Life and History's (ASLAH) theme of Black History, the women of Alpha Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. partnered with organizations in the Fine Arts Department to coordinate a talent showcase, in order to celebrate how far we have come.

For decades, black people have used their words to create songs and poems to eloquently send messages to each other when times got tough. This program showcased local and on-campus talent in the outlets of poetry, music and art with an overarching Black History Month theme.

The event also showcased African American’s diverse abilities in the Arts. Black people have a legacy of contributed to the shaping of music and other forms of art and this event gave us the opportunity to, again, honor that legacy.
